Cooking on gas: TruTac helps keep Calor fleet safe and compliant

Calor Gas, the market-leading LPG supplier in the UK, prides itself on high driver and vehicle compliance across its nationwide depot network. This can only be achieved by the best Telematics systems about which you can read more on the Noobpreneur website and various other software in place. To maintain such levels requires a tachograph software expert, which is why they use TruTac’s compliance products to provide easy tachograph data capture, tighter management control and continued safety for their entire fleet.

“We are the UK’s leading supplier of LPG” says Calor’s Fleet Asset Manager, David Brown. “And naturally, with this type of product, safety and overall compliance are paramount. Accordingly, we rely greatly on TruTac’s bespoke management systems to ensure we maintain the safest fleet possible.”

In 2015, Calor celebrated its 80th year in business and has always strived to achieve the highest levels of compliance in all areas, with driver training and vehicle investment at the centre of its fleet safety policy.

Accordingly, using the market-proven online TruControl portal and with DigiPostPros at each site, Calor can easily download and manage all vehicle and driver tachograph data. TruAnalysis (including TruDriver and TruView) provide powerful dashboards, reporting and alerts to keep a watchful eye on the status of every driver and vehicle in the fleet.

“We have been working with TruTac since 2004” adds David “and, over the years, the company has developed and modified software programmes in step with our operational and management needs. Now, with the latest tools and technology from the TruTac team, we are able to benchmark each driver and focus on the wide-ranging key performance indicators which underpin our fleet compliance and safety.”

Each Calor Gas site has an NTM (Nominated Transport Manager) and at least one STP (Suitably Trained Person). Additionally, a number of LT (Lead Trainers) have a region (north/middle/south) and assist with driver training.

Each driver is closely monitored, and any infringements are automatically logged and highlighted so managers can instantly prioritise debriefing requirements. Then, Calor can conduct informed driver debriefs and prescribe dedicated training to correct driver under-performance or, if necessary, apply formal disciplinary procedures.

For added management control, the Lead Trainers use the automated reporting system to highlight operational KPI’s and the TruView dashboard to ensure that all processes are being followed. Then, every 3 months each region can review their data and take any corrective action deemed necessary.

“Ongoing training for our transport managers and site personnel is also provided by TruTac” continues David. “This ensures all relevant personnel keep abreast of new software developments as they are introduced, and we get maximum value from the software. TruTac always work with us to ensure our needs are met. Plus, we are evaluating, a fully-combined telematics, tracking and remote downloading solution via a TruTac partner. Certainly, as far as innovation for compliance and safety goes, TruTac does not take its foot off the gas!”

Calor Gas Limited is part of a global group of LPG companies owned by the Dutch company SHV Energy – the largest dedicated global LPG distributor.
